Al Shaqab Claims first European Title of the Year


(Wels, Austria)-- Marking the third continent in which they have won a 2010 Arabian horse show championship, Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, was honored with their first European championship title for the year on Sunday.

Amir Al Shaqab, bred and owned by Al Shaqab, won the title of Champion Colt at the Austrian International (A-level) Championship Arabian Horse Show in Wels.  To qualify for the championship finals, Amir Al Shaqab captured the 3-year-old Colts class Saturday. The son of Gazal Al Shaqab is out of the mare, Amira Madrona, and was shown by Giacomo Capacci.

Amir Al Shaqab holds two previous titles as the 2008 Qatar National Champion Colt and the 2009 Qatar International Reserve Champion Colt. The dashing grey stallion proudly represents the next generation of impressive Al Shaqab Arabian horse show contestants to compete internationally. He continues the legacy of his sire, the World Champion Stallion Gazal Al Shaqab.

Gazal Al Shaqab also sired the Champion Mare of the show, Emandoria (Gazal Al Shaqab x Emanda). This mare is a Junior World Champion and U.S. National Champion and is continuing her quest this year for a Senior World Championship title in December.

Al Shaqab will compete next at the U.S. Egyptian Event in Lexington, Kentucky, June 7-12. 

His Highness, The Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani founded Al Shaqab in 1992 to preserve and further develop the Arabian horse in Qatar. Al Shaqab is led by H E Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and encompasses a Breeding & Show division, Riding Academy and Endurance Team. In 2004, Al Shaqab proudly became a member of Qatar Foundation.   Al Shaqab's mission is to promote the highest standards in the breeding and showing of Arabian horses and serve as a community resource with innovative, educational and competitive opportunities in all of the equestrian arts.
