Her Excellency brings a wealth of sporting, organizational, financial, cultural and business expertise to AL SHAQAB. She has played a pioneering role in the fields of culture, education and outreach for the majority of her life, spearheading and supporting a number of local and international organizations.
Those interests make her an invaluable asset to AL SHAQAB as it seeks to preserve Qatari culture and deepen understanding of the Arabian horse and the key role it has played in the region’s history.
In fact, Sheikha Al Mayassa’s love for the equestrian arts in general, and Arabian horses in particular, can be demonstrated by all the support she has given to artists around the world on featuring AL SHAQAB'S beautiful horses. Many painters, sculptors and photographers have been endorsed by Her Excellency to capture AL SHAQAB'S horses in various artworks. Her Excellency is also one of two Vice Presidents of Qatar’s 2020 Olympic bid committee and is working on the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, which will open in 2014.
As Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Authority (QMA), she was the driving force behind ‘The Arab Games Exhibition’, which ran from 5 October to 23 December 2011. “The Qatar Museums Authority, with its responsibility to collect, restore, exhibit and educate, also recognizes its role in preserving the sports history and heritage of the Arab world,” she said at the opening of the exhibition.
