Focusing on the form and function of the foot, the conference was meant to help owners and trainers make management decisions on the care of their horses’ hooves. Farriers and veterinarians learnt about evidence-based strategies to successfully manage a variety of hoof problems in foals, horses in training and breeding horses. Common foot ailments involving limb imbalance, foal podiatry, laminitis and correct horseshoeing methodology were also expounded. In addition to lectures and demonstrations, foreign companies set up exhibition booths to market their equine products during the conference.
Dr Mats H. Troedsson, Director EVMC said “This is the first of many educational seminars and short courses that the EVMC is planning to organize. I was very pleased with the turnout and support of the local equine community towards the conference. It provides us with the motivation to conduct the conference on an annual basis”.
