One hundred and fifty students from the Al Shaqab’s Equine Education Departmentshowed their pride in equestrianism by participating in the Equine Education Parade yesterday, on the fourth and final day of CHI Al Shaqab 2016. Students, a heritage riding class and two carriages amongst others encapsulated this visual representation to close off four wonderful days of competitions.
With the Al Shaqab and Qatar flags waving high, the studenst and heritage riding class paid homage to Qatar’s equestrian heritage. Further, the parade was a way to reflect that Al Shaqab is a social environment, designed to educate and promote horsemanship. Mona Hammoudi, a 13-year-old rider at Al Shaqab Riding Academy who has been riding for nine years, says, "I feel proud to be part of Al Shaqab and to be participating in their events. My favourite thing is being part of a team, learning something new every day and advancing in my riding style and knowledge. In the future, I hope to become an international rider and travel around the world to compete in various global competitions."
Demand to attend the riding academy has risen as interest in equestrianism has increased in Qatar. There are currently approximately 250 students enrolled, and further programmes are being developed to meet the growing demand, as Al Shaqab continues to be a magnet for equine professionals globally, and a truly engaging experience for the community as a whole.
