Rashid Al Naimi, a young Qatari with a passion for equestrianism, is the Stables Manager at Al Shaqab. He started horse riding at 14 years old, and considers the pursuit not just a sport, but an essential part of his identity as a Qatari man. Horse riding is a source of pride and glory for Rashid, and is a custom that he learned from his grandparents. He believes he is honouring and preserving such traditions through his involvement in events like CHI AL SHAQAB.
“Being part of CHI AL SHAQAB is a great honour for me as a citizen who is seeking to serve his country by being responsible for managing the stables, and all the other duties this role encompasses,” Rashid says. “This involves co-ordinating with vets and grooms, and supervising the process of shipping the horses and allocating their stables.”
However, Rashid freely admits that he has had to persevere in order to succeed in this testing role. “I faced a lot of challenges when I first took on my role,” he reveals, “but I was able to overcome them by doing lot of research and meeting with previous organisers from the tournament. This helped me to gain the necessary experience and skills to carry out my job effectively. It has been a great opportunity to develop my professional and leadership skills, and I am grateful for the immense support I received when I started working at Al Shaqab.”
Rashid’s professional approach to his job has already paid dividends, and he is convinced that the high-calibre international events hosted by Al Shaqab will eventually benefit many more of his peers.
“CHI AL SHAQAB is a unique opportunity for Qatari youth, and inspires a keen interest in the field of equestrianism,” he says. “Aside from the professional experience gained, the competition offers great personal growth as it is a way to regularly meet new people from different cultures. In turn, we also get to educate our guests on Qatari culture and traditions.”
With such dedicated employees as Rashid, it is clear that Al Shaqab is greatly succeeding in preserving Qatar’s unique equine heritage.
