Equestrian sport enthusiasts are being treated to a superb spectacle at the prestigious CHI AL SHAQAB 2016 competition, with a fierce contest underway in dressage and para-dressage disciplines involving many of the world’s top ranking riders.

Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, chairman of Al Shaqab board of directors, CHI AL SHAQAB 2016 will see British rider Hayley Watson-Greaves compete against German jockey Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Swedish rider Patrik Kittel.

Watson-Greaves, who also works as a trainer, has competed successfully in several equestrian competitions, winning the 2015 British Summer National Championship and ranking second in the FEI Nations Cup in 2015. She is also the winner of the 2014 Premier League Dressage and the seven-time winner of the Grand Prix in National Championships.

On the other hand, von Bredow-Werndl is looking to secure a title at CHI AL SHAQAB 2016, having gone close at several international competitions in recent years, including a second place finish at the Munich 2015 Grand Prix, third place at the Munich 2013 Grand Prix Freestyle, fifth place at the Mechelen 2015 WDM Grand Prix Freestyle, and sixth place at the Mechelen 2015 WDM Global Dressage Analytics Grand Prix.

Nine-time winner of the Western European League region, and member of the Swedish team that competed at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the 2009 European Championship in Windsor, England, Patrik Kittel is also among the front runners at the CHI AL SHAQAB 2016 dressage competition. Kittel is hoping to capitalise on momentum gained in the FEI World Cup Dressage series in Odense, Denmark, where he secured third place.

The dressage event is expected to attract a large number of equestrian enthusiasts over the weekend,  anticipating a riveting contest.
