Mission
We are a global equine leader passionately committed to preserving Qatar’s heritage by promoting the Arabian horse and setting the highest standards in horse welfare, breeding, equine education and research, while developing, integrating and optimizing utilization of assets and human capital towards making it a self-sustainable entity and engaging the community.
Vision
To be a world-class equestrian center with the aim of becoming an equestrian reference center in the region, with a particular focus on the Arabian breed of horses, which are among the oldest breed of horses and an important part of the culture and heritage of Qatar.
History Of Al Shaqab
His Highness The Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani established Al Shaqab in 1992 to build on Qatar’s Arabian horse heritage and to help preserve and perpetuate the Arabian horse breed.
In honor of his ancestor, Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani, The Father Emir located the Arabian breeding farm at the landmark Al Shaqab battle site where more than a century ago the Bedouins had fought a pivotal battle that led to Qatar's independence.
Al Shaqab has since developed into a multi-dimensional equestrian center. It not only breeds Arabian horses but also educates young children in the art and values of horsemanship and equestrianism, and also trains riders and horses for long-distance endurance races.
Its existence rests on three underlying pillars of education, excellence, and heritage, enabling it to be a leading equine center of excellence that provides an engaging experience for the community - a place for everyone to celebrate Qatar’s unique heritage and history.
In 2004, Al Shaqab became a member of Qatar Foundation, providing opportunities for the Qatari community to participate in a wide variety of cultural and equestrian activities.
In 2006, Al Shaqab began a visionary expansion with the development of a world-class equestrian center.
Today, spread out over 980,000 square meters, Al Shaqab stands out for its unique architectural design laid out in a horseshoe shape and is renowned the world over as Qatar’s iconic equestrian destination.
About Qatar Foundation
Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) is a non-profit organization that supports Qatar on its journey to becoming a diversified and sustainable economy. QF strives to serve the people of Qatar and beyond by providing specialized programs across its innovation-focused ecosystem of education, research and development, and community development.
QF was founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir, and Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, who shared the vision to provide Qatar with quality education. Today, QF’s world-class education system offers lifelong learning opportunities to community members as young as six months through to doctoral level, enabling graduates to thrive in a global environment and contribute to the nation’s development.

The Al Shaqab equestrian center was specifically designed to honor the distinguished classic beauty as well as the treasured and versatile skills of the Arabian breed. Situated in a stunning 980,000 square-metre horseshoe shaped design, Al Shaqab has many distinctive architectural elements. Equine Veterinary Medical Center (EVMC) is the equine hospital of Al Shaqab. The first of its kind in the Middle East, EVMC is an equine hospital with a veterinary diagnostic and clinical research laboratory. It is dedicated to excellence in veterinary care and scientific discovery through its research and education programs. EVMC is staffed by board-certified clinicians, provides a 24/7 emergency service and has 3 specialized surgical theatres.
