Meet the magnificent marathon horses bred at Al Shaqab, and which regularly participate in long-distance races of up to 160 kilometers, helping the Al Shaqab endurance riding team to become one of the world’s top competitors in the sport.

The equine exercise center on the vast Al Shaqab grounds is a hydrotherapy and exercise unit comprising a swimming pool, equine jacuzzi, dry treadmill and horse-walker used for training and rehabilitation purposes. All horses housed in Al Shaqab follow a strict exercise and diet regime, tailored to their individual needs. Carefully designed plans are implemented by the multitude of staff working on the ground including veterinarians, trainers, veterinary assistants and grooms.

The Emiri stables house Al Shaqab’ magnificent world champion stallions and prized mares. These stables are inspired by the legendary Great Stables of Chantelle in France. There are a total of 60 box stalls in this elliptical structure. Guests are free to interact with the mares, highlighting the center’s philosophy of showcasing ‘horses that are beautiful, athletic, and have great moral character and kindness’.  

The ‘Stables of The Founder of The State of Qatar’ are steeped in history and local culture and are over 100 years old. They are made from cobblestone in irregular herringbone patterns and are built in the architectural style of Arab Masonry. The stables ae still in use, particularly in the cooler months. A large central courtyard can accommodate up to 200 persons, creating a unique multipurpose setting.
