Equine Veterinary Medical Centre Farrier Training At Al Shaqab
Doha – Qatar: The Equine Veterinary Medical Centre (EVMC) in Al Shaqab will be organizing a Farrier Training Course from 21/ October/2018 to 24/ October/2018 and from 28/October/2018 to 31/October/2018. The course is specially targeted at participants with prior farrier experience and will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 pm during the above dates.
The course will comprise both academic and practical elements to give participants a full understanding of the job of a farrier. The academic segment of the course will cover basic surface anatomy of the foot, internal and external anatomy of the hoof, hoof function, principles of conformation and horse movement. The practical segment of the course will teach basic equestrian as it relates to the farrier, the correct use of farrier trimming and shoeing tools, the correct assessment of how to trim a foot to receive shoes and to go bare-foot. In addition, the course will cover the principles of shoe types, common shoe modifications used to treat shoes and lameness and the most efficient methods of correctly fitting and applying them to the horses’ feet. At the end of the course, participants will learn how to evaluate healthy and unhealthy feet and will learn how to develop a foot treatment game-plan for common lameness situations.
The course’s chief instructor will be Mitch Taylor, CJF, AWCF, Chief of Orthopedic Podiatry, EVMC AL Shaqab
