CHI AL SHAQAB has seen a huge influx of visitors since opening its doors for this year’s competition on Thursday. Some are equestrian enthusiasts who are fast becoming AL SHAQAB regulars, whereas others flock to the world-class destination for an exciting family day out.
“We’ve never watched events like this before so it’s very exciting for us,” said Amal Abunimreh of her family’s first experience of CHI AL SHAQAB. “I never imagined that there are lots of great activities for kids!,” she enthused.
AL SHAQAB’s festival zone has attracted numerous families with its array of family-oriented activities, ranging from arts and crafts, live entertainment to pony rides, allowing young children to simulate what they’ve watched in the live arenas.
In addition, there is a vast selection of food stalls, as well as interactive video games and virtual reality sets. Children can have their faces painted and watch magic shows, so the vast selection of choices accommodates children of all ages. Organizers have stuck true to tradition with a majlis-style seating area and henna tattoos within the Festival Zone, allowing youngsters to soak up the culture that has fostered a love of horsemanship for centuries.
Many parents find that AL SHAQAB has struck the perfect balance of education and fun, with their combination of children’s activities and high-level equine sport. “The events at both the inside and outside arenas are wonderful,” said first-time visitor Ana Perelta, “and the activities for the children are very nice too. It’s a very good experience for them.”
