In addition, VIP attendees included the French Ambassador to Qatar, His Excellency Eric Chevallier; the US Ambassador to Qatar, Dana Shell Smith; and the Indian Ambassador to Qatar, Sanjiv Arora.

Ambassador Arora was extremely impressed with the competition, saying: “It’s a great pleasure to be here at this exceptional Al Shaqab venue. CHI AL SHAQAB is truly a unique event, and is one of numerous examples highlighting the advances that Qatar is making across multiple spheres. Bringing the top riders from around the world to participate at this incredible event is also a strong demonstration of the heavy emphasis the country is placing on sports, and in bringing communities together.”

“I would like to congratulate CHI AL SHAQAB’s organisers on an extremely successful competition, which I believe is possibly one of the best equestrian events in the world,” he added.

Attending the event for the first time, Ambassador Smith was equally impressed with what she witnessed. “It’s just phenomenal,” she enthused. “I didn’t know what to expect, but I certainly didn’t expect this. It’s an incredible facility and this event is just world-class and beautiful.” She also praised ExxonMobil, the official sponsor for CHI AL SHAQAB 2016, for supporting the competition.

With Qatar becoming a premier destination for sporting events in the region, Ambassador Smith expressed every confidence in the nation’s ability to deliver on the world stage. “From what I saw today, Qatar has the capability to host the most incredible World Cup,” she predicted, looking ahead to the FIFA World Cup 2022. “It’s clear that Qatar can host events that rival any our world has ever seen.”
